Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) finished the 35th National Junior Athletics Championship as runaway leader when they bagged 22 gold, nine silver and five bronze medals in the two-day meet concluded at Bangabandhu National Stadium in the capital on Friday evening.

Narail DSA bagged the second spot with three gold, nine silver and 7 bronze medals. Noakhali finished third with 3-4-5.

Six more national records were bettered on the second day and in all nine new records set up by the junior athletes.

Rokshana Begum of Noakhali DSA inscribed here name as the first gold medalist in girls’ 100m hurdle race clocking 16.41 sec. Jannatul of BKSP got the silver, while Praia of Noakhali clinched the silver

Somaya Dewan of BKSP earned the distinction of setting two new marks as she clinched double sprint gold medals. She bettered records in both girls junior group’s 100m and 200m sprints. She breasted the tape in 12.22 sec in 100m smashing the old record of 12.44sec held by Rupa Khatun also of BKSP.

Later she made another record in 200m sprint clocking 25.32 sec and here also breaking Rupa Khatun’s 2017 record of 25.50sec. She also helped here team to win the $X100m relay gold to finish the championship with three gold.

Somaya and Rana Sheikh of Bandarban DSA were adjudged the best athletes in the girls’ group and boys’ junior group respectively. Rana earned gold medals in 400m sprint and 4X100m relay.

The boys’ senior group individual title went to Zulfiqar Nayeem Zeehan of BKSP for making new record in high jump, while Jannatul also of BKSP bagged the girls’ senior group title setting national marks in high and long jumps.

 The other records were shattered by Md Enamul Haque of Rajshahi Education Board in discuss throw in boys’ senior, while Sharmin Akhter of BKSP set a new record in the same event of girls’ senior group. The remaining record was set up by BKSP in 4X100m relay event of boys' senior group.
