Murder accused held

Police arrested a wanted criminal on the road near Badsha Faisal Islami Institute and seized a shutter gun and two rounds of ammunition from his possession on Thursday night.
He was identified as Rakib Hossain, 30, of Sankorpur area in Jessore town.
According to police, on Thursday night at about 11pm one of the two speeding motorcycles with three persons skidded off the road near Badsha Faisal Islami Institute.
Police on patrol immediately reached the spot and arrested Rakib Hassan and Mahamudul Hassan from there.
Police also seized the fire arms from them. But police could not arrest others as they fled the place. The arrested persons confessed to police that those who fled away they were their associates.
They were identified as Yasin of Sankerpur Chopderpara and Ramjan of Khorki Kolabagan and Tariqul Islam of Shastitolapara BB road in Jessore
town.
Police said Rakib was the main accused in Arnab murder case and many other crimes. He was the ‘most wanted criminal’ in the police record.
Woman killed over land dispute
Gaibandha: A woman was killed and four others were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over a land-related dispute at Burungi village in Saghata upazila yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Parul Begum, 35, wife of Afzal Mistri of the village.
Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Saghata police station, said Afzal Mistri and Nuru Mia, residents of the village, had long been at loggerheads over the ownership of a piece of land.
As a sequel to the enmity, an altercation ensued between the two groups when Parul Begum went there for picking eggplants from the land in the morning.
At one stage, Nuru Mia along with his supporters beat up Parul mercilessly, leaving her dead on the spot. Four people were injured when they tried to resist the attackers.
On information, police recovered the body. None could be arrested as Nuru Mia along with his family managed to flee the scene.
