Speakers at a seminar yesterday laid emphasis on improving nutrition status of both mothers and children through creating mass awareness to build a healthy nation. The people should consume nutritious food alongside maintaining healthy lifestyle to protect their health from different disease, they made the observations at the seminar entitled “Nutrition Status in Gaibandha District and Doings” at the conference room of civil surgeon (CS) here on Thursday.
Bangladesh Institute of Research and Training on Applied Nutrition (BIRTAN), regional office, Pirganj, Rangpur organized the seminar in cooperation with SONGO project. Dr. ABM Abu Hanif presided over the seminar.
Jharna Begum, executive director of BIRTAN addressed the seminar as the chief guest while deputy director of Health Department in Rangpur division, Dr. M. Habibur Rahman , and deputy project manager of SONGO project Pratick Patel, and deputy chief of party, SHOUHARDO programme, Care IshratShabnam were present at the event as special guests.
Health experts, representatives of both government and non-government organizations, among others, addressed the seminar. Heath experts said limited dietary diversity and poor feeding practices are the main causes for malnutrition among infant and young children of the country.
Most of the people feed their children same diet continuously that contribute to lose testing ability of children and many of them do not know how to prepare nutritious diets, they added.
They also emphasised for creating social awareness among the people particularly the rural ones about nutrition and nutritious food so that they could eat the nutrition food regularly to keep their bodies fit.
Jharna Begum in her speeches urged officials of government and non-government organizations to motivate the people from urban to grass root level about nutrition to attain the cherished goals of the government side by side with achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
