Saifuddin sidelined for about three months

Physician to see Tamim’s rib injury status today
Sports Reporter, Dhaka

Bangladesh national team allrounder Mohammad Saifuddin has been barred  from bowling and running activities at least for two-three months while left arm opener Tamim Iqbal's rib injury to be assessed before the Tigers' training camp begins today. BCB chief physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury provided the injury updates of the duo at his SBNCS office yesterday.

"We've been dealing with Saifuddin's recurrence back injury for over one month. After receiving all the medical reports we informed selectors, team management about his long term rehabilitation. We've shared all his scanning reports with the ECB doctor. Based on the consultation, we've decided to give him a long-term rest. It will probably take 2/3 months and during this time he will be restricted from any kind of bowling and running activity, Dr Debashis said of Saifuddin.

“But at the same time we'll begin some of his basic rehabilitation processes from next few days. It will continue until November and if his condition improves within December, he will play as a batsman in the BPL. But we won't allow him to bowl and run. If his pain permits, then he will take part in cricketing activity in a limited manner in December,”

Talking about the type of his injury Dr Debashis said, ‘’he has a stress fracture in his spine. A portion of his bone has been damaged due to workload. So, giving him rest from aggravating activities is the primary treatment for him.’’

When asked about whether Safiuddin needs further treatment after his rehabilitation process the BCB physio said it is unpredictable to say that. "We're trying to create an environment that can ensure his healing. After three months , we’ll  review his condition. Expert's opinions and the statistics we've also suggesting a long term rest can be a probable solution to his injury."

In the meantime, Saifuddin has already been ruled out of the upcoming India series. Talking about Tamim Iqbal's rib injury Dr Debashis said, “Since the rib injury healing process is poor, Tamim is disallowed from such activities that may provoke his rib pain. We'll assess to his injury after reviewing his condition before the condition camp begins. He was unfit for batting three days ago. But we hope his pain will reduce. We will take decision on Tamim after he joins the conditioning camp.
