BNP will observe 'National Revolution and Solidarity Day' today, marking the ‘civil-military uprising' in 1975, reports UNB. The party has chalked out a 10-day programme to celebrate the day amid the absence of its chairperson Khaleda Zia, now in London. Other political parties and different socio-cultural organisations will also observe the day from different historical perspectives. On this day in 1975, amid political turmoil soldiers and civilians jointly freed then chief of army staff Ziaur Rahman from captivity in Dhaka cantonment, paving the way for Zia to come to power. As part of the party's programmes, BNP will hoist party flags at its central office and all other offices of the party and its associate bodies at 6:00am.
BNP leaders and activists will place wreaths at the grave of party founder and late President Ziaur Rahman at 10:00am. BNP's all the units and associate bodies will also observe the day across the country with various programmes, including discussion, photo exhibition, free medical camps and blood donation. BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in a message greeted the people of the country on the occasion. Terming November 7 a 'historical day' in national history, she said, "On this day in 1975, soldiers and civilians took to the streets together with a strong vow to protect the national independence and sovereignty and foil all conspiracies against the country." BSS adds: The forces loyal to the country's War of Liberation observe the day as the Freedom Fighter-Soldiers' Killing Day. Some distinguished personalities think that the killing process of the freedom fighter-soldiers started in the name of sepoy (soldier) revolution from the day in 1975 and it ended with the assassination of Ziaur Rahman on May 30 in 1981.
