Madrasa teacher held

A Madrasa teacher was arrested yesterday from Fulgazi upazila of Feni for his alleged involvement in the murder of progressive publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan. The arrestee was identified as Jahid Maruf of Uttar  Tarakucha upazila of Feni. According to the arrestee’s  father, some plainclothes policemen arrested Maruf from his village home at 4am. The police team told Maruf’s father that his son was involved in militant activities, but he  denied the allegation. When contacted, Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Feni DB police, told The Independent that they were not aware of any such arrest. Sub Inspector Mainuddin of Fulgazi Police Station said they did not have any information and the local police station was not informed of any such drive. A senior official of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, preferring not to be named, however, confirmed that a man was arrested from Feni over the murder of Jagriti Prokhashani Publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan.
