A Taiwanese businessman and his wife were injured in an attack by a ‘former employee and business associate’ at their residence in Uttara on Thursday night, according to police. The injured couple was identified as Wang Ming Chi, 54, and his wife Li Li Hua, 50. They were admitted to the city’s Apollo Hospital. The incident of attack on foreigners came at a time when the government has beefed up security in and around the city, as well as for foreign nationals, after the recent killing of two foreign nationals and two police personnel in the country. Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Muntasirul Islam said the attackers also reportedly snatched Tk 6 lakh from the couple after severely beating them. Police have arrested a man named Jahangir over the attack. Police said Jahangir was a former employee of Wang’s factory at Gaizpur. Later, he left the job and started supplying raw materials to that factory. Police further said that Jahangir was a regular visitor to Wang’s residence because of business relations. Police suspects that Zahangir had a dispute with Wang over outstanding dues for which the attack may have been carried out.
