JS body for use of modern equipment in road works

Parliamentary standing committee on public accounts yesterday recommended using modern equipment in repairing and constructing roads in the country in order to make these actions cost effective, reports UNB. The committee came up with this recommendation at its 37th meeting held in Sangsad Bhaban with committee chairman Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir in the chair. The meeting said the authorities concerned should use modern equipment such that developed countries use in order to cut expenditure in road repairing and road construction in the country. It also asked the authorities concerned to install signboards on roads and highways by measuring load capacity of those roads and highways.
The committee suggested starting repair works of roads before getting those worse, taking steps to give dues in road construction and repair, completing road survey and strengthening communications with the Planning Commission. The meeting discussed the audit objections raised against the activities of Department and Roads and highways during fiscals 2003-04, 2004-05 and 2005-06. Public accounts committee members Begum Rebeka Momin, M Shamsul Haque Tuku, Main Uddin Khan Badal, AKM Maidul Islam and Mohammed Rustam Ali Farazi, Comptroller and Auditor General Masud Ahmed and Road Transport and Highways Division secretary MAN Siddique were, among others, present at the meeting.
