The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) yesterday filed cases against four petrol pumps in Dhaka and Gazipur for cheating customers by filling their vehicles with less quantity of fuel and violating the Standards of Weights and Measures Act-2018. The BSTI surveillance team conducted drives against several filling stations and found that Sam Associates Limited Filling Station at Shah Ali Bagh in Mirpur-2 area has been cheating customers by filling less fuel than expected. BSTI detected that those responsible were filling 9 litres and 460 millilitres of fuel instead of 10 litres.
The team filed cases against the owners of the filling stations under the Standards of Weights and Measures Act-2018, said a press release. BSTI also filed case against the Cosmo Filling Station and Service Centre in Azampur area of Uttra. They also filed case against the Latif and Company Filling Station in Uttara’s Turag area.
The BSTI team also found evidence that the Cosmo Filling Station is cheating to the extent of 140 millilitres of octane per 10 litres of octane. On the other hand, the team found that Latif and Company filling station is supplying 160 millilitres more diesel per 10 litres, which is also a violation of the Act.
The highest level of supplies of more fuels is 10 to 60 millilitres. In Gazipur, the BSTI filed a case against the Moon Star Filling Station. BSTI Assistant Director Rezaul Karim led the operation with Inspector Md Liakat Hossain and Md Billal Hossain.
“It’s a crime to provide less or more fuel to customer. That is why, the cases were filed against the filling stations,” he noted said.
