Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury said that fast bowler Mohammad Saifuddin’s participation in the forthcoming India series and BPL would depend on biomechanical experts’ opinion which is expected to come after the end of next week.
While talking to the reporters yesterday at his BCB office of the SBNCS Dr Debashis said, ‘‘in terms of Saifuddin’s availability for longer period of time we aren’t thinking of his participation for individual series. So we are waiting for some information and input especially the opinions of the biomechanical experts. We’ll decide on him based on the overall situation.’’
Saifuddin has been suffering from chronic lower back pain almost for nine years. The BCB also decided to send him to the national institute of Loughborough University in England for his biomechanical assessment at the cost of around 3,000 pound sterling.
Talking about his injury update the BCB chief physician said, ‘‘We had done another CT scan yesterday for Saifuddin under the consultation of England’s National Institute of Sports and Exercise and Science along with a England Cricket Board (ECB) physician who is also working on this issue. We’ll send the CT scan report to them. Based on the report’s feedback and guideline, we’ll chalk out our future plan, about his work load, match participation. We are waiting for the directives and hopefully we’ll get it at the end of next week.’’ he further added.
Dr Debashis, when explaining why Saifuddin is not playing in the red-ball cricket said, ‘‘due to some directives he is not playing in the longer version of cricket. Now after having rest he is pain free at the moment. But he bowled with some pain during playing the last T20I series and informed us about the matter. So, we’ll assess to his condition considering long term planning,’’ he concluded.
Mohammad Saifuddin also talked to the reporters about his injury at the academy ground of the SBNCS yesterday. He said, ‘‘I’ve to do anything to save my career. If you talk about Mashrafe bhai, he played despite being undergoing so many surgeries. It will be difficult for me to change my bowling action right now. But this is my profession and to continue playing cricket which is my earning source, I’m ready to sacrifice anything. By this time I won’t say anything about changing my bowling actions. ’’
‘‘Now I’m leading my life like a prisoner. As a cricketer it is boring for not being able to play cricket nearly for one month. But my main motto is to get back into the field with full fitness. Whatever the team management, selectors will decide about my future, I’ll follow that,’’ Saifuddin said of India tour.
