Syria troops fight Turkish forces alongside Kurds

The Syrian army deployed alongside Kurdish forces on the front line in northern Syria yesterday but their newfound cooperation saw no let-up in the week-old Turkish invasion, a monitor said.
In a rare scene in Syrias eight-year-old civil war, government troops and Kurdish fighters were fighting together against Turkeys Syrian proxies northeast of the town of Ain Issa, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
Rouhanis brother starts jail term

Iranian President Hassan Rouhanis brother entered prison yesterday to begin a five-year sentence after he was convicted of corruption, the semi-official ISNA news agency reported, citing his lawyer.
Hossein Fereydoun, who served as an aide to the president, was arrested in July 2017 and put on trial in February this year on allegations of financial violations.
In a final ruling, his sentence was reduced to five years from seven and he was ordered to pay a fine as well as bribes he was convicted of receiving, the judiciary said on October 1.
3 killed in Taliban truck blast

At least three people were killed and about 20 children wounded when a Taliban truck bomb detonated near a rural police station and partially destroyed a nearby religious school, Afghan officials said.
The early morning attack happened in Alishing district in eastern Laghman province, said interior ministry spokesman Nasrat Rahimi.
Three people including two security forces were killed and 27 were wounded, he added.
According to Asadullah Daulatzai, spokesman for the provincial governor, the bomb exploded outside a police station and severely damaged a nearby madrassa, or religious school.
