‘Son kills father’ in Pabna

A man was killed, allegedly by his son, during a family feud at Tebaria village in Chatmohor upazila on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Khandaker Sanwar Hossain, 57, a security guard of Ishwardi Post office.
Sheikh Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge of Chatmohor Police Station, said Sanwar’s wife and daughter-in-law had a brawl in the evening. It was followed by an altercation between his wife and son Ismail Hossain.
Ismail tried to beat up his mother but his father intervened. When leaving the place, Ismail threw a piece of brick at his father, leaving him injured.
Sanwar was taken to a local hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead
Tk 77cr gold, narcotics seized from Benapole in 9 months

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized gold, silver, US dollars and narcotics worth Tk 77 crore from various border areas of the township in the last nine months
Lt Col Selim Reza, commanding officer of BGB 49 Battalion, provided the information during a meeting to resist smuggling of narcotics, arms, women and children with local journalists on Tuesday noon.
The seized items in the last nine months include 12kg gold, 5kg silver, $365,000 (US), 61 lakh Rupee, Tk 53 lakh, 25,000 Viagra, 700 Yaba pills, 22000 bottles of phensedyl, 900 bottles of foreign liquor and 340kg hemp.
Cases were filed against 280 individuals in this time period.
Lalon Mela begins in Kushtia

A three-day festival will begin yesterday afternoon at Lalon Akhra in Chheuria village marking the 129th death anniversary of legendry Baul Lalon Shah.
The Lalon Academy, in association with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, is organising the event.
Hundreds of admires from home and abroad have already gathered at the Akhra.
The festival will have Sadhur Haat, fair, discussion and singing of Baul songs by artistes of Lalon Academy.
Local parliamentarian Mahbubul Alam Hanif of Kushtia-3 constituency will inaugurate the three-day festival in the afternoon. Tight security has been put in place to ensure safety of the devotees.
Lalon Shah was a Baul, a mystic, a songwriter, singer, social reformer and secular thinker.
He has become an icon of religious tolerance and secularism in Bengali culture.
Phensidyl recovered in C’nawabganj

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 1,130 bottles of contraband Indian phensidyl from Swashanghata frontier area under Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district yesterday noon.
Border Guard Bangladesh said acting on secret information, a patrol team of Border Guard Bangladesh from Sonamasjid border out post raided the aforesaid area at 12 noon and found the bottles of phensidyl in an abandoned condition.
Later, the seized phensidyl bottles were deposited to the Divisional Narcotics Control office.
