Bourses bounce back sharply

Country’s capital bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), observed an exceptional session yesterday registering a sharp rise riding on the news of big investment by the state-owned Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB).

The opportunist investors revealed their buying appetite inspired by the news that ICB will inject fresh investment to support the stock market.

The bargain hunters took position on the lucrative price level in all the sectors in expectation of better return which added 110 points to the prime index. At DSE, the trading activities have increased by 9.4 per cent over the last session.

The broad index, DSEX closed in green after six consecutive sessions at 4821.64 points on Tuesday with a gain of 110.33 points or 2.34 per cent.

Besides, the two selective indices, DSE30 also gained 34.22 points while the Shariah index, DSES increased by 27.87 points to stand at 1704.12 points and 1109.67 points respectively.

On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 103,517 trades were executed in today’s trading session with a trading volume of 105.84 million securities.

Gainers took a strong lead over the losers as out of 352 issues traded, 311 securities gained price while 24 declined and 17 remained unchanged.

The top 10 gainers were Bengal Windsor, Monno Ceramics, Desh Garments, Fortune Shoes, Bashundhara Paper Mills, Esquire Knit, Nahee Aluminum, BBS Cable, Shahjibazar Power and Mercantile Insurance.

Squire Pharma topped the turnover sheet followed by National Tubes, Beacon Pharma, Summit Power, Standard Ceramics, Eastern Insurance, United Power, BSC, Wata Chemical and JMI Syringe. The top 10 losers were Shyampur Sugar Mills, Beximco Synthetics, Tung Hai Knitting, Standard Ceramics, Meghna Condensed Milk, CAPM BDB Mutual Fund, Zeal Bangla, Daffodil Computers, Dacca Dying and ML Dying.

Besides, the port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also registered a sharp upbeat defying the sluggish sessions of previous days. CSCX and CASPI increased by 149.33 points and 242.81 points to stand at 8899.55 points and 14646.99 points respectively.

At CSE, a total of 5,362,068 shares and mutual fund of 238 companies were traded, of which 201 issues advanced while 24 declined and 13 issues remained unchanged.
