Remembering Bhola
Bangladesh, due to its unique geographical location, suffers from devastating tropical cyclones frequently. In the 20th century, seven of the nine most deadly natural disasters in the world were tropical cyclones that struck the delta region along the Bay of Bengal. Among them, the Bhola Cyclone of November 12, 1970, which claimed an estimated five lakh lives, is the worst cyclone on record.
Even after 45 years of that devastating cyclone, those who lived through it cannot forget that fateful night, while others who volunteered or researched the storm later, are haunted by it.

How ominous the day was. None could imagine what a tragic and terrible situation awaited lakhs of people in the southern districts of Bhola, Patuakhali, Barguna, Barisal, Bagerhat, Laxmipur and…
