The much-anticipated ‘Jazz & Blues Festival Dhaka 2015’ is all set to kick off from today at the Army Museum field, Bijoy Sarani in the capital. Starting at 7pm everyday, the three- day festival, organised by Blues Communications and sponsored by Grameenphone, will continue until midnight.
The first day, the viewers will witness the performance of English guitarist, band leader and composer John McLaughlin & the 4th Dimension. Considered as one of the pioneering figures in fusion, he is also a Grammy award winner and has been awarded multiple ‘Guitarist of the year’ and ‘Best Jazz Guitarist’ awards from magazines such as Down Beat and Guitar Player based on reader polls. In 2003, he was ranked 49th in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the ‘100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time’.
In addition to John McLaughlin & the 4th Dimension, India’s Vasundhara Vidalur, Bangladesh’s Imran Ahmed Quintet, France’s Florian, India’s Louis Banks, King Baby from USA, Brazil’s Esdras Nogueira Quartet, Soulmate from India and France’s China Moses, Bangladesh’s Blues Brothers, Razef Khan, Ayub Bachchu and AB Blues will perform at the event.
The managing director of Blues Communications Farhadul Islam is very optimistic about the event and said, “We are hopeful that the audience will have an amazing experience at the ‘Jazz & Blues Festival Dhaka 2015’. We have made the necessary arrangements for the event and have received positive feedback about our setup. Even though the concept of jazz and blues music is relatively new in Bangladesh, there is a great deal of demand. The tickets for the first day have already been sold out. The demand for the second and third day’s tickets is very high.”
He further added, “Alongside the music, we have also made arrangements of food stalls of reputable brands. Also, a documentary screening featuring legendary jazz and blues performers has also been arranged. Overall, we are looking forward to it and are hopeful that the viewers will have an amazing and memorable experience.”
