Selina Hossain to be honoured

Eminent novelist Selina Hossain, along with prolific writer Rabeya Khatun and cultural figure Begum Mumtaz Hossain, will be honoured with the ‘Geetanjali Sammanana Padak’ (Geetanjali Honourary Award) for the year 2015 in recognition of their contributions towards the fields of arts, literature and other arenas of culture.
Marking the 11th founding anniversary of the cultural organisation Geetanjali Lalitkala Academy, a cultural programme followed by an award giving ceremony will be held tomorrow at Small and Cottage Industries Training Institute (SCITI), Uttara in the city.  Presided over by noted Nazrul exponent Professor Emeritus Rafiqul Islam, State minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki will attend the event as chief guest and lawmaker barrister Shiekh Fazle Noor Taposh will be present as special guest at the event.
The cultural part of the event will feature a performance of dances, recitations, musical soirees and dramas by the artistes of the Geetanjali Lalitkala Academy.
Besides, an exhibition of children’s artworks titled ‘Sokal Belar Pakhi’ will also be held at the event.
Geetanjali Lalitkala Academy has been awarding noted cultural personalities since 2004 for their contributions towards the fields of arts, literature and other fields of culture.
Earlier, the late film figure Shubash Dutta, prominent artist Mustafa Monowar, veteran Nazrul exponent Rafiqul Islam, dramatist Imdadul Haque Milon, freedom fighter Professor Dr Alauddin Al Azad, former vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University Dr Jillur Rahman Siddiqui, multilateral poet Syed Shamsul Haque, National Professor late Kabir Chowdhury, educationist and researcher Dr Anisuzzaman, cultural figure M. A Awal, humanitarian activist Sultana Kamal, eminent author and researcher Dr Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, musician Shudhin Das, artist Hashem Khan, cultural figure Kamal Lohani and others were bestowed with the award.
