The focus will be on Mashrafe Bin Mortaza in Zimbabwe’s lone warm up game against the BCB XI today at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium. It will be the game for the Bangladesh captain to prove his fitness after he recovered from the dengue fever. Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha said they would take a call on Mashrafe after the practice game. If he couldn’t prove him fit, Shakib Al Hasan may lead the team in the series.
“Mashrafe is still recovering, he is still not a 100 percent. He is playing the practice game and he needs to prove his fitness. We will take a call after the practice game how it goes,” Hathurusingha told the reporters yesterday. Apart from Mashrafe, players like Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rahman Rumman, Liton Das, Jubair Hossain Likhon who are in the squad for the first two ODIs are also in the BCB XI.
Most of the Zimbabwe players knew the condition well as they played in domestic cricket of Bangladesh more often. But they got some new players this time for whom the practice game will be crucial to adapt into the condition. “It is always good to get a warm-up game. It is going to be important for the new guys to adapt quickly to conditions here. So that they can play their natural game,” said Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura.
