Soumya looks uncertain for Zimbabwe series

Soumya Sarkar looked uncertain to play the ODI and T20 series against Zimbabwe after being suffered from side strain. He felt strain on the left side during Tuesday’s practice session at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Thereafter he went to Apollo Hospital yesterday to know the extent of the injury. It looked the injury is something which could rule him out from the series.
“He had an MRI and some problem is reported but Soumya want to bat through the injury. But he wanted to bat and understand whether he feels good,” said BCB chief physician Dr. Devashis Chowdhury. Soumya was supposed to bat yesterday afternoon in front of coach Chandika Hathurusingha but according to the team sources, he didn’t bat as a precautionary measurement of not aggravating the injury.
Soumya was one of the architects of Bangladesh’s recent success against the top ranked side as his audacious batting up the front made the side a fearless team. He though hadn’t have a good outing in India and South Africa with Bangladesh A team, he is considered as Bangladesh’s most reliable option. Alongside him, Liton Das was also not in the form during those tours but coach Chandika Hathurusingha wants to keep his trust on them.
“Both of them are world class players. You have seen them performing really well so there’s no reason they can’t do it again. Every player goes through bad patches or lean periods in international cricket or first-class cricket. What we are trying to do, to give them as much opportunity or experience in different conditions and give them enough chances because they haven’t played enough cricket. They are young players. I have no doubt that what we have seen before they can do it again.”
But it looks Soumya’s series is over despite the coach’s urgency to get him in the team. The final report regarding his fitness will be available today (Thursday). Unless he proves him fit, Anamul Haque Bijoy or Shahriar Nafees could replace him though the latter was in 18-member preliminary squad. But in the home series, the team management could take a player out of the preliminary squad.
