National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Nojibur Rahman yesterday said revenue collection in the current fiscal (2015-16) will exceed the target, as it did in the last fiscal (2014-15), reports UNB.
NBR has already collected revenue of Tk 31,000 crore during the first quarter of the present fiscal which was Tk 28,000 crore in the same period of last year, revealed the NBR chairman, at the cover unveiling programme of ‘Tax Guide 2015-16’ held at the NBR office. Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) publishes Tax Guide 2015-16 for its members and other tax payers.
Seeking cooperation from the business community, NBR chairman said NBR and the business community of the country are committed to working together to fulfill the revenue collection target.
Appreciating DCCI for publishing tax guide every year, he said the guide helps the taxpayers calculate income tax in a formulated way and encourages them to pay taxes as well.
He said that NBR is organising Winter Income Tax Fair form 19-21 November, 2015 and urged the taxpayers who could not submit their returns earlier to submit their returns during this time.
NBR is working to modernise the ‘Customs Act 2015’ to cope up with international business and this act will be submitted in the upcoming parliament session for approval, he also added.
Speaking at the programme, DCCI president Hossain Khaled said that DCCI since long has been publishing tax guides for its members as well as for the business community of the country.
He said the Tax Guide 2015-16 covers up-to-date information on Income Tax, Customs Duty, Supplementary Duty and Value Added Tax (VAT) along with different schedules, Self-Regulatory Organisation (SROs) and orders.
The guide will be very helpful to the business entrepreneurs, banks, non-banking financial institutions, insurance companies and other corporate business houses to understand the taxation system of the country, he added.
He also urged NBR to increase awareness among the members of district chambers about taxation as fresh entrepreneurs may feel uneasy to pay taxes.
Attending the programme, DCCI directors urged NBR not to harass businessmen for tax and VAT related issues. They also said NBR could arrange VAT Fair Regularly so that people can be encouraged to pay VAT.
The Tax Guide will be distributed among the members of DCCI free of cost. The guide can also be bought from DCCI Secretariat at Tk 300.
