Work of underground water treatment plant begins

Capacity of the water plant is 350 cubic metre of water per hour

Construction work of much awaited underground water treatment plant with a capacity of 350 cubic metre of water per hour began at College Road area in the town, reports BSS. Gaibandha Municipality arranged a function on the occasion at the area on Tuesday afternoon with mayor of the municipality M Shamsul Alam in the chair.
Whip of the Bangladesh Parliament and local lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini addressed the function as the chief guest and additional deputy commissioner (General) M Shamsul Azam was present as the special guest.
Lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini formally inaugurated the construction work of the plant through unveiling a plaque and offering munajat.
Mayor of the municipality M Shamsul Alam said the poura dwellers had been demanding the water treatment plant in the area for long and with the beginning of its construction work the demand was going to be fulfilled.
The function was also addressed, among others, by executive engineer of Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) M. Aminul Islam Chowdhury, Sadar UNO Ashraful Momin Khan, panel mayor Mostaque Ahmed Ranju, and local councilor Rezaul Karim Bhuttu. Construction firm 'MAS Consortium Limited' would construct the plant at the direct supervision of DPHE under 37 District Town Water Supply Project at the cost of Tk 8.06 crore while the government of Bangladesh would provide the fund, said Aref Billah Daqua, an engineer of the department.
Executive engineer M. Aminul Islam Chowdhury said the work would be completed by June, 2018, it was expected and after ending the work, at least 1,500 households of the municipality would get safe drinking water to perform  their household works smoothly with the water.
