Rajshahi University (RU) pro-VC Prof. Chawdhury Md Zakaria apologised to Nurul Huda, a job-seeker at the varsity's law department, for his unbecoming conduct. He also requested the job-seeker not to make public any audio clips involving underhand dealings as that would tarnish his reputation.
After making public the audio clips, Huda alleged that Prof Zakaria had asked his wife how much money they could offer to the department to get a teaching post. Huda also claimed: "The nephew of pro-VC has been putting pressure on me for giving false statement before the media. They do not want any scandal." The job-seeker further alleged that he had provided illegal benefits to Prof Zakaria's nephew, Gazi Tauhidur Rahman, who is an assistant professor at the varsity. However, Prof Rahman denied the allegations levelled at him.
Huda won the Prime Minister’s Gold Medal for his outstanding results in 2018. He had applied for the position of lecturer last November but was not selected. Recently, audio clips of his conversation with the pro-VC became viral on social media. His role in recruitment irregularities came under the scanner and drew flak from different quarters. On his part, Prof. Zakaria claimed that the audio clips doing the rounds in social media were edited. He even called for a judicial enquiry to find out the truth.
