Mahmudul Hasan Joy’s scintillating century (103 not out) outshone Ferguson Lellman’s unbeaten hundred (116) as Bangladesh youth comfortably thrashed their New Zealand counterparts by comprehensive eight wickets in the third match of the five-match youth ODI series at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln yesterday.

By the instrumentality of winning the match, the youth Tigers clinched the trophy of the series with two matches to spare. Along with that, they broke their title drought as they lost three trophies in the last six months on the trot.

Chasing the target of 224 to win, Bangladeshi youth sustained the first blow losing Anik Sarker cheaply. But that can’t stop them as Mahmudul

Hasan Joy hit 90 with Tanzid Hasan for the second wicket that simplified their chase.

Even though Tanzid fell for 65 off 64, including eight boundaries and one six, Bangladesh did not look back as Joy pulled together an invaluable 128 with Tawhid Hridoy for the third-wicket unbeaten partnership that slotted the team 229 for two in 36.5 overs while they had eight wickets and 79 balls to spare.

Joy, who missed his century in the previous match for just one run, did not miss to make his triple digit-figure. He lambasted his opposition bowlers at will and brought up his century from 95 balls. He clouted 16

boundaries and a six in his indefatigable knock of 103.

Tawhid Hridoy remained stranded on 51. He clobbered eight boundaries in his 59-ball innings.

Earlier, Bangladesh youth won the toss and invited the hosts on Lincoln’s surface, where they proved themselves right as they took three wickets in the space of 37 runs.

Ferguson Lellman repaired the innings by striking a string of partnerships that paved the way for a fighting total. They finally mustered 223 for eight on the board. Lellman put on the highest 60 with HB Dickson, who remained unbeaten on 23, for the unbeaten ninth-wicket after fourth-wicket 59 with JM Tashkoff, who holed out for 20, en route to his magnificent 116.

Lellman smashed five sixes and seven boundaries in his unbeaten knock of 133-ball 116.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Avishek Das and Hasan Murad claimed two wickets each for the visitors.

The fourth match of the five-match youth ODI series will be played at the same ground on Wednesday.
