Workshop on awareness for pediatric palliative care (childhood cancer)

ASHIC Pediatric Mobile Palliative Care Clinic (PPCC) of ASHIC, Foundation for Childhood Cancer in collaboration with NVIDIA Foundation USA has organized its first WORKSHOP ON AWARENESS for Pediatric Palliative Care (Childhood Cancer) on Monday, 30th September 2019 at the Seminar Hall- Institute of Child Health at Chattagram Ma O Shishu Hospital Agrabad Chattagram, Bangladesh.

Prof. M A Taher Khan, President In charge, Executive Committee (EC), Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital (CMOSH). was the Chief Guest of the program Mrs. Salma Choudhury, Founder Chairperson of ASHIC, Chaired the program. Dr. Anjuman Ara Islam, General Secretary EC, S. M Morshed Hossain, Vice President EC, and Dr. M Mahfuzur Rahman, Vice President EC, Chattagram Maa-O-Shishu Hospital were present as the Special Guests in this program.  Prof. Dr. Rezaul Karim, the head of Pediatric Department of the hospital was also present and delivered his valuable speech in favor of the indispensable need of  Palliative Care.

Dr. Rubayat Rahman, Medical Officer, Palliative Medicine Center for Palliative Care, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital facilitated the workshop.

The objectives of the Mobile PPCC are:

1. Creating Awareness on Pediatric Palliative Care in the rural areas.

2. Providing workshop on Palliative Care in the rural areas.

3. Sending back the dead bodies, registered in ASHIC to their village home.

4. Transport patients to the Cancer Treating Hospitals in Dhaka from ASHIC Palliative Care Unit (PCU).

In line with the above objectives, ASHIC endeavors to arrange workshops at District and Upazilla Levels of Bangladesh in order to spread awareness to the community and to reach out to the unprivileged  Cancer Children and their families living in remote areas.

The workshop has been highly praised by the local healthcare specialist team and local community leaders since the program has highlighted the compassionate part of healthcare that is Palliative Care for the under-privileged Cancer Children of Bangladesh.

Mrs. Salma Choudhury, the Founder Chairperson of ASHIC, expressed her deep gratitude to the management of the hospital and the Doctors and nurses of the Hospital for the assistance and cooperation they offered to ASHIC team.
