One more dies of Dengue, 269 hospitalised

One more person died of dengue at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Dhaka Central Hospital yesterday (Saturday). The deceased, Sajal Singha, hailed from Keshabpur upazila in Jashore district. Singha was diagnosed with the mosquito-borne disease on September 29 and admitted to a local hospital. He was transferred to Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) after his condition deteriorated on October 1. The same day, KMCH doctors referred him to Dhaka for better treatment, the deceased’s brother, Partho Singha, said.

Meanwhile, the number of dengue patients admitted to different hospitals in the country has shown a downward trend. A total of 269 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in the country in the last 24 hours. Of them, 60 were admitted in  Dhaka hospitals and the rest outside the capital. A release by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) control room yesterday (Saturday) said 1,477 patients were undergoing treatment in various government and private hospitals in the country.

Of them, 495 patients were undergoing treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in the capital and 982 were receiving treatment elsewhere in the country. As of yesterday (Saturday), the number of recorded dengue patients this year was 89,616. Among them, at least 52,636 were hospitalised in August alone. Meanwhile, 87,903 patients were released from hospitals following their recovery. This comprised 98 per cent of the cases referred to different hospitals in the country, according to health officials. So far, the DGHS has analysed 136 out of the 236 cases of death. It has confirmed that 81 deaths were due to dengue.
