Theatre troupe Aranyak Natyadal, one of the most prominent theatre troupes in the country, is set to stage its acclaimed production ‘Bhangabanga’ at 7pm today, on the third day ‘Sharodiya Natya Utsab’ at Bardeshwari Kalimata Mandir in Rajarbagh area of the capital.
The five-day theatre festival is being arranged on the occasion of Durga Puja like the earlier years.
Written by thespian Mamunur Rashid and directed by Faiz Zahir, the play is the 54th production of the troupe.
The story of the tragic-comedy ‘Bhangabanga’ is based in a village on the Bangladesh-India border in Benapole following the partition in 1947. It portrays the people of Benapole (Bangladesh) and Haridaspur (India). Several of Tagore’s characters like Bishu Pagla, Malini, Nandini, Bosonto Roy, Aparna, Nabin, Raja and others are involved in illegal businesses such as trafficking, prostitution, among others.
The probable cast of the play includes Mamunur Rashid, Tomalika Kormoker, Arif Hussain, Sajjat Saju, Firoz Mamun, Kamrul Hasan, Sayed Sumon, Hasim Masud, Monir Zaman and others.
Later, at 9pm, theatre troupe Swapnadal will stage its much-acclaimed production ‘Jadur Pradip’ (The Magic Lamp). A ‘mimodrama’, as the troupe calls it, ‘Jadur Pradip’ is based on the overly familiar fairy tale ‘Aladdin and the Magic Lamp’. The play has been adapted and directed by Zahid Repon. The central message of the production is the triumph of the good over the evil.
Before staging the plays, Kumari Laksmi Devi from Joypurhat will present Padabali Kirtan at 4pm at the same venue.
With the slogan ‘Moncho Mayay Manobotar Joy’, Bardeshwari Kalimata Mandir has arranged the five-day theatre festival to celebrate the Durga Puja. The festival opened on Friday by giving ‘Ferdousi Majumdar Best Student of the Year’ award.
Bushra Nushaiba Chowdhury from Ovoy Binodini High School received the award. Ferdousi Majumdar handed over the award to the winner. Jatiya Sangsad body chairman Saber Hossain Chowdhury, noted artist Ramendu Majumdar, Sammilita Sangskritik Jote President Golam Kuddus and coordinator of ‘Sharodiya Natya Utsab’ Chitta Ranjan Das were present, among others.
After the inauguration, Theatre staged its play ‘Payer Awaj Pawa Jay’, while Manipuri Theatre staged its play ‘Kohe Birangana’ on the opening day.
