Couple killed, 25 others injured in road crash
UNB, Manikganj
A man and his wife were killed in a road accident when returning home from shopping for puja on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Gonesh Shonnayashi and Kolpona Shonnayashi. At least 25 passengers were also injured in the accident.
Highway police and Fire Service sources said Gonesh and his wife, residents of Shibalaya upazila, died when an Aricha-bound bus from Manikganj fell into a roadside ditch at Tora area of Ghior upazila on Dhaka-Manikganj highway around 6pm. The bus was giving space to a private car coming from the opposite direction. Arifur Rahman, Sub-Inspector of Borongol Highway police outpost, said on information the police and fire service conducted rescue operation with the help of the locals.
The injured were taken to Manikganj district hospital but the couple succumbed to their injuries on the way. The other injured are being treated at the hospital.

Two drug peddlers held with 1,964 yaba tablets

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-5) arrested two alleged illegal drug peddlers with 1,964 pieces of yaba tablet from Mollan village in Sadar upazila yesterday afternoon.
The arrestees are Obaidul Islam, 26, and M Zinarul Islam, 35. On a tip off, a team of the elite force conducted a raid in the area at about 1.00 pm and arrested the duo with the yaba tablets, a RAB official said.
Later, the arrested persons were handed over to the police of Chapainawabganj Sadar police station.
300 poor get cloths in Habiganj ahead of Durga puja

A total of 300 poor people of the district yesterday got cloths on the occasion of Durga Puja.
Shaymol Chhaya, a voluntary organisation, organised the clothes distribution function at Chowdhury Bazar in the town. Advocate Md Abu Zahir joined the programme and distributed the cloths including Saree and Lungi.
Jagadish Chandra Modok chaired the function while Police Superintendent Mohammod Ullah, Sadar Upazila Chairman Motachsirul Islam, President of Zila Puja Udjapan Committee Advocate Nalini Kanto Rao and the Assistant Organising Secretary of Chowdhury Bazaar Puja Udjapan Committee Ajay Rao were present, among others.
