Workshop on creative writing held at BAIUST

A workshop on ‘Meet the Writer Programme and Creative Writing’ was held at Bangladesh Army International University of Science and Technology (BAIUST) to awaken the creativity of students. Department of English of the university arranged the workshop at its auditorium on Monday for enhancing the knowledge of student on creative writing, said a press release yesterday. Kaiser Haq, an internationally eminent poet, essayist and translator, was the guest author of the programme. Vice-chancellor of the university Brigadier General (Retd) Professor KM Salzar Hossain, Treasurer Col (Retd) Professor Md Mosharrof Hossain and Registrar Col Suman Kumar Barua were present in the programme. Under the title “My Journey as a Bangladeshi English Poet”, Haq dwelled on how he came to write in English which purports to the inclusion of a literary piece in world literature. He also talked on the history of English writing in the subcontinent and how his choice of English as the medium of creative writing tags along.
27 candidates to vie for each seat in IU admission test

The Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia will see 27 students on average fight for each seat in this year’s entry tests for the 2019-20 academic session. Altogether, 61,942 candidates are expected to take part in the entry tests, IU admission test technical committee member secretary Professor Paresh Chandra Barman told UNB yesterday. There are 2,305 seats under four faculties of the university. A total of 2, 223 students applied for 240 seats under ‘A’ unit (Theology Faculty), 27,637 for 1,065 seats under ‘B’ unit (Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty), 8,930 for 450 seats under ‘C’ unit (Business Administration Faculty) and 23, 152 for 550 seats under ‘D’ unit (Applied Sciences and Technology faculty). The admission test will commence on November 4, Paresh said. For more information, the applicants have been advised to visit the university website www.iu.ac.bd.
Colours of Autumn celebrated at Stamford University

With the theme ‘Colours of Autumn’, a cultural programme organised by StrayBird (a literary and cultural forum of English Department) was held recently at Stamford University Bangladesh, says a press release. “Tomar Khola Hawa” – a beautiful piece of music - was rendered at the beginning of the programme welcoming autumn. The programme was held at Shiddheswari campus auditorium of the university. The event was enlivened when a group of students performed with “Mongol Pradeep” in their hands with the sound track “Anondoloke” (by Rabindranath Tagore) in the background. A fusion of classical and western dance - with the songs “Shrabon Gogoney Ghor Ghonoghota” and “Beat it” - was beautifully presented on stage.
