De-worming Week begins

The National De-worming Week-2019 campaign began yesterday in Khulna region aiming to protect human health from harmful effects of worms.

While addressing the inaugural function, Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque urged people from all strata of life to extend their supports to make week-long campaign successful. The inaugural function was held at Nayabati Hazi Shariatullah Biddyapith in Khalishpur area in the city yesterday morning. The mayor also stressed the need for creating awareness among the people through launching the National De-worming Week-2019 campaign. He said worm infected children suffer from different physical problems,

including weight loss and poor growth and anemia, which eventually lead to poor educational achievement and productivity. Chaired by KCC Councilor Talat Hossain Kaut, the function was addressed, among others, by civil surgeon ASM Abdur Razzak, panel mayor Aminul Islam Munna, District Education Officer Khondokar Ruhul Ameen. Health experts, officials, representatives from different government and non-government bodies, among others, were present on the occasion.

A total of 5,43,792 children from 2,734 educational institutions in the Khulna city and district will be administered de-worming tablets from October 1 to 7.

Khulna Civil Surgeon Office and Khulna City Corporation Authorities have taken all necessary preparations to make the programme a success.

Khulna Civil Surgeon Office sources said some 3, 94,022 children aged between 5 to 12 years and aged between 12 to 16 of 2,143 government and other educational institutions will be fed de-worming tablets.

Under Khulna City Corporation (KCC), de-worming tablets will be administered among 1,49,770 children aged between 5 to12 years.
