Experienced top-order Bangladesh batsman Imrul Kayes defended the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for its policy of the fitness test for the players ahead of the National Cricket League for the 2019-2020 season.
The BCB set a benchmark of fitness minimum eleven score in beep test for the players to be eligible for the country’s first class cricket competition which is scheduled to get underway from October 10.
The way the discussion over the fitness test or the beep test has been held for the last few days that made all panicked but Imrul said he sees nothing new in fitness test what they have to do it prior to their every series or tournament.
He, of course, admitted it is somewhat challenging for those players who are outside of the national team.
“Fitness test is nothing but new for us. We have to start each and every camp with fitness test,” said Imrul Kayes, who returned to business after one and half-a-month ahead of the National Cricket League (NCL).
“But those who are out of the national team for them is a little bit challenging,” Imrul told media.
“But overall, it’s better for the Bangladesh cricket. It will increase the competition further. Along with that, the senior players will be inspired. We’ll also try to restore the fitness level,” he added.
In absence of Tamim Iqbal, the team management and selectors sought to include Imrul Kayes in the one-off Test against Afghanistan on home soil last month but the experienced batsman did not play the series because of his child ailment.
He had to stay with his ailing child and took him to Singapore for multifarious problems. Now he is sound after being healed from sickness. He hopes to return to his usual business ahead of the NCL, where he vows to give his best.
“Getting such a chance of playing longer version cricket is, of course, better for every player ahead of the Test series. Even those who are playing for ‘A’ team is a great chance of playing four day match for them,” the 32-year-old batsman said.
“Personally I will try to be focused on it and attempt to give my best in this national league,” he also said.
“I was completely out of cricket since the last one and half-a-months. I could not have given my focus on this side due to my child’s ailment. Now, Alhamdulillah, he is sound and good. I’ll try to return to cricket by giving my hundred percent,” he added.
Expressing his regret not to play the last Test match on home territory, the left-handed batsman said that he is waiting for the next chance, because he thinks, all the hopes are not ended.
“Everybody hopes to play for the national team. And all move forward with this hope. I’m also waiting for the next series with this hope. If I get a chance to play, I will try to capitalise it,” he viewed.
“I have got an opportunity to play the home Test series but unfortunately I didn’t play it because of my child sickness. But that’s not ended. If I get chance ahead, I will try to give my cent percent effort,” he said further.
“If you are sick mentally, it does not also stay fit physically. He knows well who is suffering from it.”
“I had to go to Singapore after being started the problem once again. This time doctors told me that it will not be repeated. They gave medicine. He was affected by dengue fever from where two more diseases had been affected. The people in Malaysia are affected by this disease than our sub-continent. For this, the doctors of Bangladesh could not diagnose it,” he concluded, saying it.
