2 killed in city road accidents

BSS, Dhaka

Two persons including a bus drive were killed in two separate road accidents in the capital on Tuesday night. The deceased were identified as bus driver Jahangir Alam, 26, and a passerby Ismail Hossain, 60. The accidents took place in Banani Sainik Club and Sayedabad bus stand areas at around 8.30pm on Tuesday, said BM Farman Ali, Officer in Charge (OC), Banani Police Station. Ismail Hossain died on the spot as a bus dashed him in front of Banani Sainik Club here on Tuesday night, said the OC. The Police seized the bus, but its driver managed to flee away. In another accident, bus driver Jahangir was seriously injured while another bus hit him in Sayedabad bus stand area. Alam was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Steps taken for celebrating Durga Puja in Rangpur

Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud yesterday said tight security measures would be taken to ensure peaceful celebration of the ‘Sharodiyo’ Durga Puja, the greatest religious festival of the Sanaton community, in the metropolis. He gave the assurance while presiding over a views-exchange meeting on ‘Law and Order Situation during Durga Puja-2019’ held at his conference room with leaders of Rangpur city unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parisahd (BPUP) in the city. He said special security measures including deployment of police forces along with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Ansar- VDP and community police would be ensured for peaceful celebrations of Durga Puja at all 164 puja mandaps erected in the metropolis. The RpMP Commissioner called upon everyone to remain cautious about the vested interests of those people who could create chaos and sabotage anywhere during the festival.

Savar Military Farm opens modern milking parlour

BSS, Savar

A modern milking parlour was inaugurated at Savar Military Farm incorporating with new technology being used in the dairy industries across the world. Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed inaugurated the parlour at the farmhouse here yesterday morning. Using this technology, it is possible to remove the total milk from 20 cows at a time in a minute under hygienic and germ free condition. This modern technology will save time and labour in dairy farm management, the farm source said.
