Domingo, Minhaj to watch matches of ‘A team’ in SL

SPORTS REPORTER, Dhaka
Domingo, Minhaj to watch
matches of ‘A team’ in SL

Bangladesh head coach Russell Craig Domingo coupled with chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu are going to Sri Lanka to watch the matches of the touring Bangladesh ‘A’ team, who is now locking in against their Sri Lankan counterparts.

Minhajul Abedin confirmed the news to media during the final of the tri-nation series between Bangladesh and visiting Afghanistan, the match which was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to persistent rain on Tuesday.

But they are leaving Dhaka for Colombo in two different days. Domingo is due to fly to Sri Lanka yesterday (Wednesday), while Nannu is scheduled to join him in the Sri Lankan capital city on Thursday, a day after Domingo’s landing.

It was earlier learnt that head coach expressed his interest to see the games of the second string team in the island nation in the aftermath of the triangular series. But this time it’s learnt that not only head coach but also chief selector will fly to Sri Lanka to see the ‘A’ team games, especially their longer version matches ahead of the next tour in India in November.

“I’m going to Sri Lanka a day after head coach. Russell Domingo is going to fly to Colombo on Wednesday,” said Minhajul Abedin Nannu.

In addition, September 25 is the birthday of Minhajul Abedin Nannu. Basically it has been delayed a day for this.

The chief selector informed further that they are basically going to see the longer version series in Sri Lanka. The visitors will play two four-day matches, the first of which will be started on September 28 even though the first match was previously scheduled to begin on September 26.

When asked him why it will be held on September 28, Nannu said that they brought back the schedule for two days after discussing with Sri Lanka Cricket following the first two days of the opening four-day matches have been washed out.

“The initial two days of the first four day match has been washed out due to the persistent rains. We have initiated to resume it from September 28 consulting with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). And so, the first four-day match will be played on September 28. Thereafter, the other four day match will be held on swapped scheduled,” he said.

It is learnt from the BCB insiders that a string of performers from the national team and High Performance (HP) have been included in the match, where Soumya Sarkar, Shadman Islam Anik, Mominul Haque, Mehidy Hasan Miraj and HP’s Saif Hasan among others will play that matches. To see their temperament of the longer version and performance, Head coach and chief selector travel to Sri Lanka.

There is no seek and hide that the alacrity of the head coach and selector is for the next India tour because the Tigers will tour to India in November while they will play a two-match Test series. The first Test will be held in Indore and the second one will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Prior to that important tour, the coach and selector along with the team management want to see the performance of those five-six players of the national team and HP team.

Domingo saw the shocking Test loss to Afghanistan in Chattogram. To see some players in different conditions, they travel to Sri Lanka. They will see HP’s Saif Hasan and Nazmul Hossain Shanto along with some other HP players during their ‘A’ team’s tour.
