Police arrested a local Juba League leader following an attack on police and barricaded off a police investigation centre at Dhaperhat in Sadullapur upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
The arrestee was identified as Sabbir Ahmed Palash, joint general secretary of Juba League Dhaperhat unit.
Dhaperhat Police Investigation Centre In-Charge Nawabub Rahman said Sabbir obstructed a police team while they were conducting a drive to arrest criminals in the area.
At one stage, they forcibly took the mobile phone of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Aziz and stared to beat him. Police then arrested Sabbir and brought him to the police investigation centre.
Following this incident, the relatives of Sabbir and his activists barricaded off the police station. After few hours, police used three rounds of bullets to bring the situation under control according to the order of high official, the ASI added. Confirming the matter, Superintendent of Police Tohidul Islam said police arrested the accused Juba League leader and started drive to arrest others who were involved in this attack incident.
