‘Meghmallar’—a full length Bangla feature film based on the short story ‘Raincoat’ by legendary writer Akhtaruzzaman Elias, has been invited to participate in the 46th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa. The film has been selected for the competitive category in this ten-day event, which will be started on November 20 and continue till November 30.
Directed by Zahidur Rahim Anjan, the plot of the film is about the conventional portrayal of the Liberation War, and it goes back to August 1971. It is unusually rainy. Nurul Huda, alias Noor, is a chemistry teacher in a government college. He lives in a small district town with his wife, Asma, and his four-year old daughter, Sudha. Noor’s brother-in-law, Mintu, used to live with them. Recently, he has left to join the Liberation War. Noor and his loved ones continue to live their regular middle class lives in the backdrop of this frightening war. Like other teachers in the college, Noor has to continue conducting classes. He keeps his views agreeable with his Pakistani minded colleagues, but he yearns for the liberation of Bangladesh in his heart.
The key cast of the film includes the National Film Award winner Shahiduzzaman Selim, Jayanta Chattopadhyay, Zara, Aminur Rahman Mukul, Mosharraf Karim, Aparna and Aditi. Aparna plays the role of female protagonist named Asma in the film.
