Police arrested 40 Jamaat-Shibir activists in five districts on charges of subversive activities.
In Pirojpur, police arrested eleven leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami during raids in Pirojpur Sadar, Kawkhali, Nazirpur, Nesarabad and Bhandaria upazilas yesterday.
Md Walid Hossain, superintendent of police, Pirojpur said the arrested leaders and activists of Jamat-Shibir were planning to part in subversive activities in Pirojpur.
The arrestees are Maoulana Abdul Goni, upazila Ameer of Bhandaria, Md Nazrul Islam, upazila secretary, activist Anwar Gazi of Kawkhali, activist Ruhul Amin and Abdul Wadut of Pirojpur sadar upazila Jamat, Faisal Khan, Md Rubel Sheikh and Tapu Rahman of Nesarabad upazila, Arif Sheikh, Zasim Hawlader and Manik Molla of Nazirpur
upazila. They were arrested from their houses.
In Jhenidah, at least 15 activists of the Islami Chhatra Shibir were held from various places of the district from Sunday night and yesterday morning.
They have been allegedly involved in subversive activities and are preparing commit crime in the district, police said.
Officer-in-charge of Jhenidah Sadar police station Hasan Hafizur Rahman said police conducted separate drives in the town and arrested the Shibir men.
The OC said some documents highlighting their plan for violence were also seized from their possessions. The arrested were sent to Jhenidah jail-hazat, he said.
In Patuakhali, police arrested a Jamaat leader from his residence in Dumki upazila yesterday on charge of sabotage.
The arrestee Jamaat leader was Md Mazibur Rahman Kamal, a lecturer at Muradia female madrassa in the upazila.
Police sources said acting on secrete information Dumki thana police arrested the Jamat leader on charge of distributing anti-government leaflets and holding secret meeting with Jamaat activists for committing sabotage. Police produced him before a court in a sedition case the same day.
In Chandpur, apprehending subversive activities, police along with DB police arrested eight Jamaat- Shibir activists early yesterday from a boarding house in the town’s Bot Tola area.
Police sources said the activists were arrested from a meeting where they were planning to engage in subversive activities.
Police also seized one computer and found some clues to their involvement in subversive activities. They were produced before the court that sent them to jail.
In Kushtia: Police arrested five leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir from different areas in the district town on Sunday night, reports UNB.
District unit Jamaat’s senior nayeb ameer Prof Farhad Hussain and former chairman of Sadar upazila and Jamaat leader Mosharraf Hossain are among the arrestees.
Additional superintendent of police Abu Bakkar Siddique said on a tip-off, a team of Kushtia Model Police Station conducted separate drives at the houses of Farhad Hussain and Mosharraf Hossain and arrested them at night.
At the same time, a team of Khoksa Police Station arrested Khoksa municipality unit Jamaat president and Abdur Razzak, who is also a councilor of the municipality.
Besides, the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a Shibir activist, identified as Sujon, from Jagati area.
A team of Daulotpur Police Station arrested Akkas Ali, a Jamaat activist.
Police arrested the Jamaat-Shibir over suspicion that that they may carry out subversive activities, said the ASP.
