The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) yesterday extended its earlier order till January 31 that had stayed the proceedings for holding the Tangail 4 by-poll, scheduled to be held on November 10.
The apex court also asked the High Court (HC) to hear and dispose of a rule issued over the nomination of Krishak Shramik Janata League president Abdul Kader Siddique by January 31.
The four-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, came up with the order, following a petition filed by the Election Commission (EC) challenging the High Court order.
Earlier, on October 21, in response to a writ petition filed by Kader Siddique, the HC had directed the EC to accept his nomination and issued a rule asking the EC and the government to explain why the cancellation of Siddique’s nomination for loan default should not be declared illegal.
