SC orders Fakhrul to surrender at trial court

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court yesterday asked BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to surrender before a trial court by Tuesday (today) in connection with three arson and vandalism cases.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after rejecting three petitions filed by Fakhrul seeking extension of the apex court’s order that had granted him bail in the cases filed with Paltan and Motijheel police.

Earlier on October 6, the apex court extended till November 2 its earlier order that had granted bail to Fakhrul in three vandalism and arson cases.
On July 13, the Supreme Court had granted Fakhrul’s bail for six weeks as per the recommendation of a medical board of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. The apex court had also directed Fakhrul to surrender before a lower court after the expiry of the six weeks bail.
The Dhaka Central Jail authorities, on July 14, released Fakhrul.
Fakhrul went to Singapore on July 26 for treatment. Later on August 10, the BNP secretary-general left Singapore for the USA for better medical treatment. On August 31, the apex court extended Fakhrul’s bail for six weeks who was then staying in USA for treatment. On August 31, the court extended the orders for six weeks more.
