The 500-year-old Shahi Mosque in Patuakhali is now in a state of disrepair due to lack of renovation. Hundreds of people rush to this mosque every day. The Shahi Mosque is near the Paira river in Majidbaria village of Mirzaganj upazila.
Locals said Khan Aujiyal Khan had built the mosque in the 1465. They say the mosque is a symbol of Muslim history and heritage.
However, almost all the fine works of the mosque have perished due to lack of repair and supervision. Locals and visitors demand that this structure be properly preserved and renovated.
Md Altaf Hossain, director general of the Patuakhali Archeology Department, said that the Shahi Mosque was another ancient structure bearing testimony to the history and heritage of Patuakhali.
The government will preserve this ancient mosque of the Muslim religion very soon to highlight the history, culture and traditions of the country, he added.
