Zimbabwe look to finish their tri-series campaign on winning note when they will take on high-flying Afghanistan in the fourth and last match of the tri-nation series at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) in Chattogram today. The match is slated to begin at 6:30pm. Zimbabwe faced off Afghanistan earlier in Dhaka phase, where they gave a tough fight in chase of a challenging total of 198 set by Asian rising team. So far, they are yet to triumph any match of the tri-series.
Even if it’s dead rubber for Zimbabwe, they want to finish it with victory because it will be last international match for its captain Hamilton Masakadza. So, there will be their best efforts to win the match and give a befitting farewell to their long-serving players. This has been resonated with the words of the right-arm medium fast bowler Kyle Jarvis, who was coming out of the Radisson Blu, said that they want to give Hamilton a farewell by winning the match against Afghanistan.
“He (Hamilton Masakadza) deserves a well send-off and he served the nation over the years. So, we are looking forward to give him a good farewell,” said Kyle Jarvis. Though Zimbabwe did not hold their pre-match day drill, Afghanistan led-by Rashid Khan appeared in the stadium with the entire contingent and held their pre-match day intense practice at evening session at Sagorika area of Chattogram.
They will not take Zimbabwe lightly and are not eager to give any concession despite having no value of the match because they already ensured their final slot by winning two successive matches at Dhaka phase as their attitude and body language indicated. They want to go the final with winning momentum so that they can lift the trophy of Tri-series following their solitary Test triumph.
The only area of concern for the Afghanistan looked to be the unavailability of interim head coach Andy Moles as he is currently hospitalized in Dhaka for his infection on his legs. Moles had sustained the infection during their preparation camp at Dubai but attended all the practice session wearing a bandage on his leg.
Batting coach Nawraz Mangal is currently looking after them as the head coach and the former national skipper and selector would be keen to start his journey on a winning note when they take on Zimbabwe on September 20.
