The vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University (JU), Prof. Farzana Islam, paid a courtesy call on home minister Assaduzaman Khan Kamal yesterday (Thursday). The VC told The Independent: “I apprised him of the present situation on the campus centring admission."
Asked about the ongoing agitation against her, she said: “I only got four to six minutes. There was no discussion on the agitation. The minister assured me of help to conduct the admission test that begins on September 22.”
At noon, teachers and students, under the banner of ‘Jahangirnagar against Corruption’, brought out a rally on the campus, demanding resignation of the VC. The rally started from the social science faculty and ended at the old administrative building, after parading the campus.
Addressing the rally, Socialist Student Front general secretary Mohammad Didar said: “People of the country know that the JU VC is involved in corruption. She has morally lost the post.”
