DUJA celebrates 34th founding anniversary

The Dhaka University Journalists' Association (DUJA) celebrated its 34th founding anniversary yesetrday. The celebrations took place at TSC amid much enthusiasm and joy. Leaders and members of DUJA brought out a procession led by Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, DUJA President Abir Rayhan, and General Secretary Mahdi Al Muhtasim Nibir. A cake was cut on the occasion at TSC by VC Akhtaruzzaman. Reminding the reporters of the important role they play, Prof Akhtaruzzaman said, “DUJA has been playing the role of watchdog. It’s been working to uphold democratic practices.” Mentioning the objective of journalists, the vice-chancellor said journalists bring forth many issues and crisis faced by the university. The works of the young journalists positively influence the university administration. DUJA President Rayhan said, “The young journalists are playing an important role in ensuring quality of higher education at the Dhaka University.”
General meeting held at AIUB

American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) organised a general meeting on the fall semester 2019-20 at the university auditorium yesterday, says a press release. Dr Carmen Z Lamagna, vice chancellor of the university, presided over the meeting. Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Tafazzal Hossain and deans of the four faculties, Prof Dr Charles Villanueva (also VP, Academic), Prof Siddique Hossain and Prof Tazul Islam spoke in the meeting. Chairman of AIUB’s Board of Trustees, Nadia Anwar, was also present in the meeting. The general meeting ended with a positive note of utmost dedication, commitment, loyalty and upholding the interest of the university so that it can carry out its inherent mandate successfully.
Tree plantation programme held at IU
BSS, Islamic University
As part of campus beautification programme and improving greenery of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia, a tree plantation programme was held on Wednesday on the university campus. IU vice-chancellor Prof M Harur-Ur-Rashid Askari inaugurated the programme as the chief guest by planting ‘Krishnochura’ at around 10am. IU Economics department organised the programme on the campus. Chairman of the department of Economics Prof Debashish Sharma, Assistant Professor Farha Tanzim Titil, Assistant Prof Shahed Ahmed, officials and students of the department were present on the occasion. Around 58 types of fruit and herb saplings have been planted on the campus.
