‘Speed up activities of land ports’

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury yesterday directed the authorities concerned of all land ports in the country including Sonamasjid, Hili, Banglabandha land ports to make those more dynamic. He also asked the authorities of Sonamasjid and Hili land ports to realise their dues in shortest possible time, said a press release.

The state minister gave the directives while attending a meeting of the land port authority relating to its development, financial and administrative affairs. The meeting was informed that the government owes Tk 3.39 crore and Tk 1.38 crore from the operators of Sonamasjid and Hili land ports respectively under the bill on transfer (BOT) method.

The meeting was also informed that the permanent deposit of Bangladesh Land Port Authority reached Tk 349 crore till June 30 this year. Bangladesh Land Port Authority Chairman Tapan Kumar Chakraborty and Shipping Ministry’s Additional Secretary MM Tariqul Islam were present at meeting.
