2 more dengue patients die

Two more patients, including an infant, died of dengue in Khulna district yesterday. Among them, Rafit, an eight-month-old child, died at the Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH).  The second deceased was Md Khabir Uddin, 50, who died at the same hospital. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has confirmed that a total of 68 people have died due to dengue across the country till yesterday.

Confirming the matter, Dr Ayesha Akhtar, the assistant director of emergency service and control room of the

health department, said: "Eight more deaths from dengue took the official death toll caused by the mosquito-borne disease to 68."

“The Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research has reviewed 116 deaths out of 203 cases. Among them, 68 were confirmed to be caused by dengue,” she explained.

A total of 653 dengue patients were admitted to various hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours. Among them, 193 were admitted to various hospitals in Dhaka, while the remaining 460 people to hospitals outside the capital.

The DGHS control room, in a press release issued on Monday, said the number of patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals across the country was 2,507.  

In all, 983 patients are currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in the capital, while the remaining 1,524 patients undergoing treatment outside the

capital. As of today, the number of recorded dengue patients this year has hit 81,839. Among them, at least 52,636 were hospitalised in August alone. A total of 79,129 patients have already been released from hospitals following their recovery.

About 97 per cent of the dengue patients, admitted to different hospitals across the country, were released from hospitals after treatment, according to health officials.
