Drama staged to tarnish my image, claims JU VC

Jahangirnagar University (JU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Farzana Islam yesterday gave clarification over a leaked phone call recording between former BCL secretary Golam Rabbani and JU joint secretary Saddam Hossain, terming the conversation a staged drama. The VCs clarification came a day after the recording was leaked out on Sunday.
In the recording, Rabbani is heard telling Hossain that the VC had distributed money to Chhatra League leaders and activists in the university.
Talking to the media yesterday, the VC said: Its preplanned and motivated. Rabbani wanted to undermine my reputation as I had made his illegal demands public.
No financial dealings were done with the BCL. I did not give any money to any of them. Rabbani plotted a drama against me with this phone call. It is false and I will never take responsibility for these fabricated charges, she added.
Farzana also said that some people were trying to malign her and her family.
As per the leaked phone call, Rabbani had called a certain Hamza Rahman Antor and asked him about current situation in the university. Hossain was with Antor during the phone call. At one stage, Antor gave the phone to Hossain and asked him to talk with Rabbani. Then, the BCL leader confessed to Rabbani that the VC had given Tk. 1 crore to leaders of the JU BCL unit.
In a related development, Antor has accused JU proctor ASM Feroz-Ul Hasan of threatening him for leaking the call recording.
The proctor threatened me for leaking the phone call recording. He said I had done it deliberately to defame the VC, he said.
On his part, the proctor said, I had a good relation with Antor. So, I called him and asked him about the recording. I think he brought such an allegation against me due to frustration. I did not threaten him.
