JS body for quick steps to end problem

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Environment and Forests Ministry yesterday recommended taking necessary steps for solving the problems regarding Amin Bazar garbage dumping station immediately.
The committee made the recommendation at its 7th meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban here, said an official release.
The committee also made recommendations to serve notices for closing the dumping station by imposing the highest possible fine.
The meeting suggested presenting a report to the Finance Ministry within November-December on determining taxes on imported cars based on the magnitude of environment pollution caused following their imports, said the release.
The committee had an elaborate discussion on the Clean Air and Sustainable Environment (CASE) and Sustainable Forests and Livelihoods (SUFAL) projects.
At the meeting, it was also recommended that the ministry takes initiatives to develop a sound training module to properly implement the SUFAL project in time, added the release.
With committee chairman Saber Hossain Chowdhury in the chair, the meeting was attended by committee members Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin, deputy minister Habibun Nahar, Md Mozammel Hossain, Dipankar Talukder, Nazim Uddin Ahmed, Jafar Alam, Md Rezaul Karim Bablu, Khodeja Nasrin Akter and senior officials concerned.
