BPL franchisees don’t come to terms with BPL Governing Council on various issues of the new rules and regulations of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). For this, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon abruptly announced that they will host the ensuing BPL without any franchisee.
The BCB president said that they will organize the upcoming BPL by the instrumentality of their own finances, the new BPL will be named after the name of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mijubur Rahman ‘Bangabandhu BPL’.
The BPL franchisees are very much disappointed in such decision of the BCB that there will be no franchisee in the seventh edition. The franchisees alleged that the board didn’t inform them regarding their decision.
As of now the franchisees have appealed to the board to be part with this memorable BPL. In such a situation, BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon has given a recipe to bring back in the old rules of the BPL. Papon said at midnight on Friday that the BPL may come to the old rules if the problems will be resolved with the owners of the franchisees.
“We have no desire to scrape anyone from the BPL. Even we don’t want to drop anybody. There have been some problems between us. We want a permanent solution for it,” said Nazmul Hassan Papon.
“When we will understand that there will be no problem with it, we will then come back to the earlier format,” Papon told media in the aftermath of Bangladesh’s victory in Tri-nation opener against Zimbabwe at the Sher-e-bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
But if not the problems are resolved, Papon warned that the decision they have already taken is almost finalized.
“Everything has been finalized regarding the forthcoming BPL. There is no doubt about it that the ensuing edition is not being held on franchisee-based tournament. This time it has no chance about it,” he said.
“But there is no problem to be sponsor of teams. The name of Comilla will be remained but Comilla Victorians might not be stayed,” he added.
Two days before the BCB president’s impromptu announcement, Comilla Victorians owner Nafeesa Kamal held a press conference, where he fell into tears.
Appealing to the BCB, she said, “BPL is being organized on the eve of Bangabandhu’s centenary birth anniversary. I never remain out of it. I don’t want that our team is deprived of such biggest honour and opportunity.”
“I hope that Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and BPL Governing Council orgainse the Bangabandhu BPL tournament successfully with all the franchisees,” she also said.
