The selling of ruling Awami League’s nomination papers for the by-polls to Rangpur-3 constituency of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) will end at 5pm today. AL started the sale of the party nomination papers on September 2 at the party president’s Dhanmondi political office in the capital.
A total of eight aspirants have so far collected the party nomination papers. The aspirants are AL Advisory Council Member Chowdhury Khalekuzzaman, AL Rangpur city unit General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal, Publicity and Publication Secretary Rejaul Islam Milon, Labour Affairs Secretary Abdul Majid and Member Md Mosaddek Hossain Bablu, AL Rangpur district unit acting President Momtaz Uddin Ahmed, Organizing Secretary Anwarul Islam and Publicity and Publication Secretary Rezi Rahman.
The candidate for the by-poll will be finalized at the party’s nomination board meeting at Prime Minister’s official residence Ganabhaban in the city on September 7.
Voting for the by-election will be held on October 5 using the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) across the constituency.
The Rangpur-3 constituency fell vacant after the death of Leader of the Opposition and Jatiya Party Chairman Hussain Mohammad Ershad who passed away at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital on July 14.
