Seizure of narcotic drugs is just a tip of the iceberg; much more drugs are entering the country. Starting from the metropolis down to the remote villages everywhere various drugs are available. Most of the drugs are entering the country through the porous borders. According to sources, scores of phensidyl producing factories have sprung up on the borders of India from where thousands of bottles of phensidyl are transported to Bangladesh everyday and are sent to different places of the country.
The people connected with the vicious trade have made fortunes ignoring its disastrous impact. Heroin comes through the airports while yaba comes through various points of Cox’s Bazar district. Yaba is produced in the factories that have sprung up on the Myanmar borders. A section of dishonest members of law enforcement agencies allegedly facilitate the entry of the drugs into the country in exchange for bribes. That’s why the dubious business is thriving in the country.
Drug addiction can wreck the peace of a family, it can even ruin a family totally. The addicts commit various crimes like theft, robbery and mugging for managing money for buying drugs. So, this menace should be combated before it is too late. Parents can play vital roles in shaping the moral characters of their offspring. Educational and religious institutions can also play their respective roles in resisting drug addiction.
The relevant authorities should take stringent measures, including stoppage of the sources of the narcotic drugs. Members of the law enforcing agencies should be proactive to combat the menace. The borders should be checked first. The drug addicts should be properly rehabilitated. More drug rehabilitation centres should be set up under government and private initiatives. Massive awareness should be grown among various segments of people, particularly among youths and teenagers, about the detrimental effects of drugs.
