Bangladesh women’s U-21 team set to make AHF Junior Cup debut

The door of the international women’s hockey arena will be opened with the Bangladesh Under-21 women team taking part in the Air Asia Women’s Junior AHF Cup Hockey Championship to be held in Singapore from 9 to 15 .

The jersey of women’s national hockey team was unveiled yesterday when the general secretary of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) AKM Mominul  Haque Sayeed announced the Singapore bound 18-member squad in the ceremony at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium. First Security Islami Bank Ltd has been sponsoring the Bangladesh team jersey. BHF vice-president Abdur Rashid Shikder and Shahazada Basunia, head of public affairs and brand communication division of  First Security Islami Bank Limited were also present.

As the debut in the international competition, Bangladesh national women team have no any high hope in the championship but just to have international exposure and gaining experiences, as the advisory coach of the team said in press conference.

Ajoy Kumar Bansal, the advisory coach of the national women team, when talking in the jersey unveiling and press conference said, “Of course it was not enough time, in this shot time as much as we could prepare the team. In the last 15 days training they played against the SAI team of India.”

“When I came here I found the girls simply like novice, but it is very much appreciating and I am very happy seeing their eagerness to learn new things,” said Bansal, a highly qualified and an experienced coach from India.

Bansal when talking about the target in Singapore, said, “This is the new era of the Bangladesh women’s hockey, so have to keep patience, right now actually no specific target.”

“When I came here, I could not think that the players are so hard working and the officials are so cooperative.”

“Arranging six matches were very good idea against the team like SAI and before that they (Bangladesh) did not face any strong side, had no any international exposure, in the six matches they could not win any match but the outcome is skill and stamina,” said Bansal.

“Actually, I am not keen to have something higher because they had no international exposure, the most concern is that they will play first time in this level, it would be a bi exposure for the girls,” said Bansal about their expectation.

Bansal also informed the reporters that Hong Kong and the Uzbekistan two teams are higher than us, they have long hockey culture, Singapore are also experienced team, in term of skills our team is not also  bad, on the given day they can do anything but I don’t want to mislead my team.”

Team captain Ritu Khanom, said that they were expecting to win at least a match, “I know it will be a tough experience for us but we want to return home at least a win.”

Meanwhile, the team expected to leave Dhaka for Singapore on September  4 or 5.
