CCTV cameras installed to curb crime in Chandpur town

CCTV cameras have been installed in key points of the district headquarters town of Chandpur to curb crime.
Chandpur SP Jihadul Kabir said as many as 60 CCTV cameras have been installed in the town. Four more CCTV cameras will be installed soon in some other important places. The business hub of Puranbazar will also be brought under this network soon, the SP told the media on Saturday.
Kabir expressed hope that this step will help curb crimes, such as eve teasing, stalking, extortions and drug peddling, and also monitor traffic jams, accidents and chaos on the roads.
The CCTV cameras will also help to nail negligence and irregularities by police personnel on duty.
I and my staff can easily observe these activities from our office and take prompt action accordingly, the SP said.
He said that after taking charge as the Chandpur SP, he had assured the people to free the district from drugs, terrorism, eve teasing, stalking and extortion isms among other crimes. The project to install CCTV cameras is part of this plan, he added.
On behalf of Chandpur Press Club, its secretary, Prof. Delwar Ahmed, Lakshan Chandra Sutradhor, Iqbal Hossain Patwary, Golam Kibriya Jibon, Shah Md. Maksud and GM Shahin were among those who welcomed the initiative to curb crime.
