Schoolgirl 'takes own life' after being stalked

A schoolgirl allegedly committed suicide by taking sleeping pills after being stalked by a youth in Bhandaria upazila of the district early yesterday.

The deceased was Ruksana Rupa, 16, a class-X student of Bhandaria Sadar Girls’ High School and daughter of Ruhul Amin of the upazila.

Quoting Ruksana’s father, SM Maksudur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bhandaria Police Station, said a local youth named Tamim showed the girl an indecent photo edited with her face in his mobile phone on her way home from private tuition in the afternoon.

Ruksana informed her parents about it and later took some sleeping pills on Friday night. She was admitted to Upazila Health Complex and then shifted to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMC) where she died around 1:30 am, the OC added.
